Venue – Grosvenor House Hotel, London Date – 3rd – 7th May 2009 Client – SAS Institute Inc USA
After working with SAS in the UK on their annual Forums, SFL were given the opportunity to work with the SAS Worldwide HQ on their Premier Business Leadership Series European conference, which this year was to be held in London. SFL gave SAS a full solution for the event from providing furniture for the networking area to a spectacular set, stage and engineered sound, lighting and video system.

The conference was held at the impressive Grosvenor House Hotel on in London. This event was invite only for senior executives from public and private organisations from all over the world, therefore SFL felt the need to make the event feel prestigious and stand out from previous international conferences. One of the most important features for the client was the video production. Therefore SFL made sure the highest specification of equipment was used for this. A 10m wide screen was incorporated in the set, with 2 Barco 17.5K projectors being used to create a widescreen blend. The Barco Encore system was used as control, along with a Zandar multi viewer and a 4 channel SDI PPU. VT playback was from Grass Valley Turbo’s running HD content and each of the 5 comfort screens were controlled using ImagePro HDs, so the client could have any of the 10 various inputs on any of the 5 comfort plasmas at the simple press of a button. This was all controlled on an Encore LC.

The sound in the Great Room came from a high end d&b audio solution. SFL used Q1 tops, Q7 tops, Q10 tops and Q sub. FOH mixing was operated by a Yamaha M7CL desk. A Roland M400 was used for monitoring and broadcast feeds.
SFL provided an impressive set and stage which took pride of place in the Great Room. With its crisp white lines and layers of depth, it fitted in well with the rest of the event and added dimension to the main conference room. At nearly 25m wide, the set filled the room and became a focal piece. The set included 2 lots of 3 x 3 set up of Pulsar Chroma Panels on either side that were then brought to life with images projected on to it using 4x DL2 moving heads. The stage was part of the set and had 2 areas that would rise and fall to reveal a vivid band of colour.
The lighting solution tied in with the video with use of the DL2 moving head projectors; all content was played from a Hippo Critter. The brief was to light the clean white set in a way that would make it very simple to change the look and feel of the session. Colours ranged from SAS blue to a very bright orange and green. Generic lighting was also used to provide an even coverage of white light for the cameras.
SFL also provided technical equipment in the form of various fully spec’d break out rooms, a networking lounge and a temporary TV studio which included the set, camera and lighting for web casts. |
