Martin McColl September Awards

SFL help Jim Martin Marketing services to bring the happiness to life mmc09-1-small

Venue - Sandown Racecourse, Esher, Surrey
Date - Wednesday 9th September 2009
Client - Jim Martin Marketing Services

Twice a year, Martin McColl put on a Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony for their employees and clients. Once again Jim Martin Marketing Services came to SFL for help to create the theme of the event and provide a sound, lighting and video solution.

The brief to SFL was simple; the event was to be sponsored by Coca Cola and the theme was to be based around the Coca Cola Happiness Factory from their advertisements. SFL alongside JMS, set out to devise a set around this theme with the lighting and video to compliment it.

The first aspect was the set, it was created to look industrial with exposed metal truss. Having seen images from the advertising, our in house designer produced a set that resembled a factory with various pipes, a conveyor belt being moved by Coca Cola bottle top cogs and a pipe pouring into a giant Coca Cola bottle. The set was dressed with foliage and a star cloth hung behind to add to the fantasy aspect of the whole idea. Four 50” plasmas were hung from the set showing various Coca Cola adverts on loop and were also used during the Awards Ceremony to show nominees and winners.

SFL used d&b Q10 and Q sub to ensure that the whole room could hear the entertainment and announcements for the awards clearly; the sound was mixed on a Yamaha M7CL. The entertainment was provided by a pianist and the ACM Gospel Choir.

The lighting consisted of Chroma banks, LED Par cans and profiles to light the room. Mac 250s were used to project moving cloud gobos across the roof of the venue. This enhanced the set and took it from being a static set at one end of the room to a look and feel that drew you in.

In all the event was a great success with SFL’s client quoting: “You got inside my head, took out my ideas and made them a reality”.
