St Saviour's Church in Tollington Park is one of a group of three churches in North London. They approached SFL to help with the refurbishment of their beautiful church. James Gosney our Sales and Installation Manager was invited to meet in the old, empty, neglected Anglican Church on a cold December day. He was left to let his imagination run wild. This was an easy thing for James, especially as there was nothing in the Church. The guidelines James received were that the vision was for the church to be used by the community as well as the church on a Sunday and during the week.
The solution SFL put together included sound, lighting and video. There was already a small stage in the church. Two 8'x6' retractable screens were hung on either side of the stage. They needed to be retractable because they hang over the pulpit which is used on a Sunday morning. Two Christie LX450s were used to project song words, images and video on to the screens fed from an analog way easy fade switcher. These were mounted on pillars. A plasma screen was also hung to face the stage so it could be used as a visual feedback to those on the stage. A Denon professional DVD was also installed and connected to the projectors. The video system was built to allow 3 camera operators and a vision mixer to be added at a later date.
All sound was to be run from a Yamaha 48 channel M7CL digital mixing desk. There were a number of speakers included in the system design to disperse sound evenly throughout the building. The speakers included Meyer UPJ1P loudspeakers used with L'Acoustics SB15P powered subs. Meyers UPM2Ps were used as side fills. Four Tannoy IW6D's were sunk in to the wall at the front of the stage as front fills. All the speakers apart from the Tannoys had their own amps. For fold back for the band, 8 D&B max 12 wedges were used. A specially designed rack was built to accommodate the Yamaha amps, a Marantz PMD 560 hard disk recorder and an Alesis HD24 digital 24 track hard disk recorder. This was to allow St Saviours to do multi track recordings. This was fed by 2 Yamaha ADAT cards.
All the lighting was run from an Avolites Pearl lighting desk. Six lots of 6-way internally wired bars were hung in the church along with 8 Studio Due Shark 250 profile moving lights, 2 Studio Due XS 700 wash lights, 2 Studio Due city colour flood lights for the alter area, 24 par 64 par cans and 4 source 4 zoom profiles. The lighting was an impressive set up and really brought the church to life. |
