SFL Managing Director Recieves Prestigious Award

SFL's very own Mark Payne (Managing Director) receives an award for his work in acoustics and noise control ioawebimagessmallanc

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

On 10th April 2008, Mark Payne was awarded with the ANC Prize (Association of Noise Consultants) for the best acoustics project submitted from all students studying for the Postgraduate Institute Of Acoustics Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control in 2007.

Mark Payne accepted the award from Rupert Thornely-Taylor from the ANC at the 'Widening Horizons in Acoustic Research' IOA Spring Conference held at the University Of Reading, April 2008.

Marks project, 'Design and Implementation of Room Acoustics Improvements for a Multipurpose School Hall' was a turnkey acoustics problem analysis and solution consultancy provided to Sevenoaks Prep School. The project dealt with the measurement of contrasting Reverb Time (RT60) profiles, taken using gun-shot type impulse response, interrupted pink noise and MLS (Maximal Length Sequences) techniques.

The project went on to detail the design and implementation of a retro-fitted acoustics solution for the problems encountered in the school hall. It also compared and contrasted RT calculations using the well know Sabine and Eyring formulae and went on to discover that the less known Fitzroy approach was a more appropriate and accurate predictor of RT in this environment.

The full report is reproduced if you click here and is a must read for all budding acousticians (as a case in IOA Diploma 'best practice') and all considering the retro-fitting of acoustic absorption in large spaces to control RT.
