SFL Group were approached by Andy Barr from Pure Solutions to provide the technical solution for Global Day of Prayer at Upton Park, West Ham United's stadium. This was a day organised for the churches in London, as a day of prayer and celebration and was attended by over 18,000 people. The event consisted of a 16m x 12m stage, with a band and an orchestra. A choir were sat in the stands and braved the continuous rainfall. With two 30metre² and two 10metre² LED screens set on the sides of the stage and 70k of lights.
The big issue for SFL to overcome was the loss of the level of sound as it went up the stands. Mark Payne was the man for this job and he managed a loss of only 5 db from the front row in the ground blocks to the back of the west stand.
This was achieved with over 100 boxes of d&b Q series (Q1 and Q sub) and some additional B2s. All the subs were in Cardioid Sub Array (CSA). Two PM5Ds were used to mix the sound at FOH, with one mixing the band and the other mixing the orchestra. The whole system was rigged through the night. It only stopped raining for about 20 minutes throughout the whole time which added to the challenge.
Craig Lawrence was eager to use the newly acquired Screen Pro II on the video production side of the event. This allowed for the visual to be smooth when fading from cameras to song words to whatever else was being shown on the 4 impressive LED screens. As a whole the event was a huge success.
