Location: The Old Truman Brewery
Event: Swatch Urban Expression
Date: 11th September 2005
Client: Stretch Communications
Production: Craig Lawrence
Sound: Colin Hounsome, Dan Lush
Camera: Jeremy Harper
Vision Mixer: Craig Lawrence

Crew: Colin Green

This was a free event put on by Swatch combining many different forms of street expressions including music, graffiti, dance, Le Parkour and fashion - something for everyone! DJs performing live included headliner Barry Ashworth (Dub Pistols), the Ragga Twins, Adam A Skillz plus newcomers, Devils Gun and lots more, with an MC battle, dance workshop and DJ school taking place throughout the day.

This took place throughout different areas of the Brewery. There was an undercover car park that was transformed into a live venue. We put in the sound, live video and stage. The stage also included a 10m catwalk jutting out into the audience so that the MC's could get right into the crowd out people that flocked to the event. The sound was a challenging task for engineer Colin Hounsome who had to battle with the joys of an empty undergound car park but he managed to get kicking sound out of the system. We used d&b C7 for FOH and d&b MAX15's for the on stage monitors. As there were live bands we put in a monitor desk as well.

Outside we supplied a 10m2 LED screen flown from a ground support structure to relay images from the camera inside the main venue and the roving camera outside capturing the live acts and the graffiti wall. We also put a main venue audio mix outside with the screen using d&b Q7 speakers. We found that this drew more people into the venue as they could see what was happening inside. There was a video screen in the main venue as well but this had to show different images to the LED screen outside. We achieved this by using an Analogue Way matrix switcher.

There were also a number of individual DJ systems dotted around the site. Each of these systems comprised of 2x Technics 1210's, 2x Pioneer CDJ1000's mixed on a Pioneer DJM-500.
