:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Location: Madejski Conference Centre
Date: 12th February 2005
Sound: Mark Young
Lighting: Colin Hounsome
AV: Craig Lawrence
Additional Crew: Pete Felgate

SFL has been working with the Insurance Institute now for the past 6 years. We provide them with the complete production solution for their annual dinner. The insurance Institute is a no profit organization so SFL had to provide a cost effective solution with a professional look.

The event was held in the evening and we only had the venue booked for 1 day, so the complete solution had to be set up and removed all in a day. This meant that the crew on site had to stick to rigid deadlines to ensure that the event and the rehearsals progressed without any problems. As well as providing the sound, lighting and video, the set and stage were also provided. The set was a custom design and it was built to be an addition to the SFL set stock. This is the largest set that has been built in house to date. It is made up from 10 individual panels, it is a total width of 42' wide and it stands 14' tall at it's highest point. The screen is set in the middle of the set and it can be a 10' or a 12' wide screen. The Insurance institute commented that the set made a big difference to the look of the room.

The sound solution had to provide voice reinforcement to a square room with over 1000 people sat at tables, banqueting style. The sound engineer Mark Young decided to use 8x d&b E3 speakers placed all around the room for even dispersion. There was 1 lectern mic-ed up with 2 AKG 747's and there was a Sennheiser radio mic on the presenters as a back up.

The lighting needed to be very simple, it needed to highlight the lectern position and provide some light on the set just to bring some depth to the stage. This was achieved by 8 profiles on stands either side of the venue.

The main screen in the set was being used to show sponsor logos throughout the dinner and then it became the main presentation for the motivational speaker Debora Veal. She also had a video clip half way through her presentation which came from VHS. An Analogue Way data switcher was used between the pc inputs and the VHS so that the presentation maintained a high quality on the screen. There were also plasmas either side of the main screen on stage and in the foyer area outside of the venue displaying the scrolling sponsor logo's all night.
